Over the past five years, Diligent Fingers has given the world some insight into just how eclectic his creative energy is via his Spynal Records imprint, including his 2024 album "War In Peace". That same diversity of thought fuels his upcoming album, "The War Within", from which this pair of sampler tunes is taken. The A-side "Release" is an unexpected contradiction: pretty jump-up. Flexing his production muscles with a bassline akin to hitting a taut steel cable with a rod, futuristic rave stabs, and evocative pads, the whole combination should not work. But work it does, in the most delightful way. It’s fun, jerky, funky, and majestic all at once. “Here Alone” changes up the vibe completely yet still remains firmly planted in Dili soil. With an irresistible lofi hip hop beat underpinning his verses and layered harmonies, this is Diligent Fingers displaying his full range. Ruminating on the possibility of love in the face of inner turmoil, its depth is remarkable. Together, the pair of tunes gives us a glimpse of an intriguing album to come, and another facet of the artist creating a moment.
